The sun had long since disappeared by the time Simon eased back from his desk and stood. His muscles ached from the hours he’d remained seated while looking out onto the alleyway for any sign of Alex. It wasn’t as if they’d made specific arrangements, but after their disastrous “date” last night, Simon assumed Alex wouldn’t leave him hanging high and dry. Trusting Alex would call if there was something wrong, Simon headed to his apartment.

Shadows filled the small room even with the bedside lamp casting an even glow across the sparse interior. But it wasn’t the shadows Simon was interested in. His gaze landed on the floor where Alex had knelt. Where Alex had slowly pulled out Simon’s dick. Where Alex had smiled before licking at the drop of precum gathered on the tip of Simon’s extremely hard and seriously aching cock.

Still a little amazed at how readily he responded to Alex, Simon had tried not to let that image play over and over in his mind, and for the most part had succeeded, but now with the smell of sex still in the air, Simon couldn’t help but remember each soft lap, each hard suck, and every moment of utter bliss as he’d shot down Alex’s throat.

Biting back a groan, Simon entered the bathroom, studiously avoiding that small strip of linoleum. He needed a shower, a cold one, though he doubted it would entirely erase the low thrum of need still buzzing through his veins. Did Alex feel the same thing? That incessant craving for intimacy that had grabbed hold with sharp claws and was refusing to let go?

Assuming Alex did and it was something they were both going to have to deal with, Simon stripped out of his clothes, then turned on the shower. He didn’t linger, just needing to cleanse the sweat of the day from his skin before slipping on a fresh T-shirt and a pair of loose sweatpants.

He opened the small freezer and pulled out the first microwavable meal he saw. Hungry and tired, Simon didn’t care what it was, but as he stabbed the plastic film with a fork, he longed for the Chinese he’d shared with Alex. Or more accurately, Simon longed for the opportunity to not have to eat alone. At least that would change once he was out of here.

Taking that optimism with him, Simon sat on his bed, stirring the heated cottage pie until it was a mess of brown goop dotted with orange and green to advertise the content of vegetables. It wasn’t the worst meal he’d ever eaten—that was reserved for the scraps he’d picked up off the street—but it was a far cry from the meals his mom used to make. She’d loved to cook, and there were times when she’d filled the kitchen with rich aromas that battled one another for supremacy. One of Simon’s favorite meals was a beef stew his mother would always create just for him, but most of all, Simon loved the days when she’d baked.
